And then the gongs rang...

Description

True story....I actually had a dream about this thing. And some form of it often appeared to me during my waking hours in the middle of the night out of the forms of things hanging in my closet, or lumped folds in the white curtains or laundry clothes. I have a deep rooted fear of the Uncanny Valley and of melting or distorted tall heads. This thing had in my nightmare just such an unbearable reek of scorched tortured pain and lost innocence about it. It was a unique peculiar 'boogeyman', I think, because a lot of the time we fear the childhood monsters in the closet or under the bed or in the basement etc, because we fear they have got something evil in mind: It wants to drag us to Hell or prey on our flesh, or do something nasty along those lines....But this guy didn't in my imagination wanna 'get me'. He was already 'dead'. Or just seen as an inanimate object that was scary and unexplainable beyond thought. He just STOOD there and left me with an unconscious awareness that IT had during it's 'lifetime' suffered beyond all mental description.

I gave it the title, due to the soundtrack that occurred when it appeared. If I am remembering correctly, in my original dream this thing was not sentient (or wasn't anymore far as I know) but was being used by an angry mob as a sort of huge gigantic effigy. They dangled it by the neck from the ceiling with a long black rope, and had already burnt it to a crisp and stabbed it with pitchforks multiple times by the time I had arrived. I just only stared at it, and couldn't look away. I don't think in the dream I was harmed in any way, but it disturbed me plenty enough. I think maybe there was a bomb, or a disease, or whatever hidden inside of it....but honestly, this thing bothers me just the way it is alone.

Another true story:....I found that, as I previously expected it to, it was not a very good idea to listen to the song 'Machine Gun' by Portishead while painting this. It fits in too accurately good as a theme: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKJ-qg…
